Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Appointments

We have recently welcomed Majella Beattie to the practice staff to work as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP). ANPs are nurses who have acquired extra skill-sets that enable them to operate at a higher clinical level than normal practice nurses. An ANP can diagnose, prescribe and manage patient conditions in a way similar to GPs. At the moment our ANP appointments are suitable for the following conditions:

  • Coughs/Colds
  • Chest/sinus infections
  • Cold sores/athletes foot
  • Diarrhoea/constipation
  • Ear/nose/throat infections
  • Eye infection/stye/conjunctivitis
  • Hay fever
  • Headaches
  • Indigestion
  • Impetigo/shingles
  • Muscular pain
  • UTIs (but only if the patient does not meet criteria for the Pharmacy service)
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Wound infections

The ANP clinics are always supported by the Duty Doctor for advice when required.

Limitations

  1. The ANP clinics are for self-limiting conditions not linked to an on-going medical condition, in other words patients that have a new set of symptoms that are not part of a chronic pre-existing condition
  2. If a patient has a recurrent infection they should book an appointment with a GP.
  3. Pregnant women and children under five years old should book an appointment with a GP.

Telephone System

We have recently upgraded our telephone system and now offer some services by telephone. These include prescription request services and an automated cancellation line (both open 24/7). Missed appointments cause delays for other patients so please do call the cancellation to cancel an appointment if you are unable to attend so that it can be used by somebody else.

Private Services

We now offer private podiatry, physiotherapy and psychology, if you are unable to wait for a free NHS appointment or would prefer a private service. Please contact the surgery if you are interested in any of these services.

Other Updates

Doctors Walsh, Willens and Dawes are reducing their clinical commitment at the same time which may lead to a delay in obtaining an appointment with these doctors.
